On September 27, violinist Haerim Elizabeth Lee releases My Time is Now on Innova Recordings. Praised for her “impeccable phrasing and relevant musicality” (El Norte, Mexico), Lee has a profound relationship with Gershwin’s music and legacy. While studying at the University of Michigan (home of the Gershwin Initiative since 2013), Lee had a lightening bolt moment of inspiration upon reading George Gershwin’s quote, “My people are American, my time is today. Music must repeat the thought and aspirations of the times.” These words “freed me from the constraints I had previously felt as a classical musician,” Lee states. “Gershwin showed me a path to love all of the various genres of music that both influenced and shaped my life.”
