NYC-based saxophonist, composer, and bandleader Quinsin Nachoff is praised for making “pure, bracing, thought-provoking music” (Ottawa Citizen), and his new album, Pivotal Arc, continues down an exploratory path. DownBeat has described Nachoff’s music as using “structures borrowed from the classical realm to make his music more open and expressive.” On Pivotal Arc the listener isn’t hearing a jazz musician “borrowing” from the classical world – the three works on the album plunge listeners headfirst into a multifaceted but seamless sound-world interweaving driving rhythms, pointillistic modernism, and folk-tinged romance.
