NYC’s longest-running early music series Music Before 1800 is set to embark on an ambitious 48th season. The series hosts eight concerts in the intimate and acoustically superb Corpus Christi Church. All concerts will stream a week after the live performance. To kick things off, on October 2, The Boston Camerata makes its series debut with a fresh perspective on the American spiritual tradition with folk hymns derived from English and Celtic folklore, African-derived call-and-shout group songs, links in the Black tradition to the experience of slavery, reminiscences of the Civil War, and shared celebrations of striving, freedom, and salvation. This concert marks the first of the MB1800’s new annual American Roots initiative.
