On Sunday, April 3, 5PM, Mirror Visions Ensemble (MVE) presents “Midnight Magic” in Merkin Hall at NYC’s Kaufman Music Center. MVE co-founder Richard Lalli has curated a wide-ranging collection of songs that includes German Lieder, newly commissioned songs in a variety of styles, Gilbert and Sullivan, Sondheim, Mozart, Florence Price, and traditional folk classics like “Midnight Special.” The thing connecting these tunes is what Lalli describes as “the moment between today and tomorrow when all things mysterious and magical occur.” As audiences experience a variety of midnight-inspired themes they’ll also be transported to and from various landscapes including lower Manhattan, Moscow, Harlem, Bologna, and Hollywood. The program features lyrics by Johnny Mercer, Carl Sandburg, Langston Hughes, and Walt Whitman, to name a few.
