The Florida-based composer-led collective Madre Vaca releases the wild improvisational collection of songs Tunnel to the Moon on May 22 on its own label. The hour-long continuous-form work unfolds as a hybrid of rock opera, chamber music, and song-cycle. Built around a sprawling poetic text written by Charlie Shuck nearly two decades ago, the album traces a surreal journey through shifting states of perception, mythic imagery, and cycles of destruction and rebirth.
