Mangetsu

Mangetsu is an ethereal blend of folk tradition through and art-music lens. Duo della Luna was formed through the commission of the title track by violinist Airi Yoshioka. Composer/soprano Susan Botti's work sets three texts that explore the mystery of the moon by Izumi Shikibu, William Butler Yeats, and Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. Botti’s sensual setting of these otherworldly texts is contrasted with her inventive arrangements of Bartók’s famous violin duos, as well as works by Kaija Saariaho and Linda Dusman. Yoshikoa and Botti have a shared passion for the written word, story-telling, and nature – all of which sparkle on the album.
