@toomaiquintet‘s second album, 𝑷𝒂𝒔𝒔𝒐𝒔 𝑩𝒓𝒂𝒔𝒊𝒍𝒆𝒊𝒓𝒐𝒔, is now available everywhere!

The album pays homage to Brazil’s rich musical legacy. It features Toomai’s original arrangements of popular songs by Milton Nascimento, Gilberto Gil, and Dona Ivone Lara (the “First Lady of Samba”); jazz-influenced works by Hermeto Pascoal and Léa Freire; and classical selections by Heitor Villa-Lobos, Chiquinha Gonzaga, and Paulinho Nogueira. In 13 tracks, Toomai’s string instruments capture the essence of several beloved Brazilian traditions: choro, samba, Brazilian jazz, classical music, and Música Popular Brasileira (MPB).

@ezraquartet, the adventurous collective of classical, jazz, rock, and bluegrass musicians, releases 𝘌𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘩 𝘵𝘰 𝘌𝘡𝘙𝘈 on September 6, 2024 on @cantaloupeny. The album is a wild, playful, captivating mashup of progressive bluegrass and microtonal synthesis.

Featuring contributions from the @bangonacan All-Stars’ Mark Stewart (@soundstewart) and keyboardist Xak Bjerken, the album is a whimsical and otherworldly journey, channeling a freewheeling mix of group improv and practiced songcraft.

Most intriguingly, Earth to EZRA also debuts the first recorded use of the Moog-Rothenburg keyboard, from a prototype designed by theorist David Rothenberg and built by renowned synth pioneer Robert Moog in the mid 1960s.

Whoa, I always knew @afarcrymusic was highbrow brilliant. The @nymag Approval Matrix is a longtime fave, so this is especially fun.

A Far Cry performs Janáček – along with works by @kareem.roustom, @kinan_azmeh, and @wijeratneworks – in Central Park tomorrow night as part of the @naumburgconcerts summer series at the Naumburg Bandshell, which has been highbrow brilliant since 1905.

The concert will be broadcast by @wqxr_classical with the one and only @mcknight3000 hosting.

Big thanks to the Naumburg team and most especially @bucklesweet for all their work.
